The Main Event

Use slide 1 to introduce the vocabulary, using lots of repetition and pointing.

Go to slide 2 and reveal the symbols one by one to allow the children to remember them in order.

Pointing games

Using slide 2:

  • Point to one of the symbols and say an instruction word. If the word matches the symbol (Vrai – True), the children repeat the word (Répétez!). If the word spoken does not match the picture (Faux –False) the children stay quiet (Silence!).
  • Say one of the instruction words. Two children race to point to the symbol first. The winner is the first to three points.
  • Silently mouth one of the instruction words. Children have to do the action.

The symbols have been jumbled up and some are missing. Using slides 3-5, the children work out which symbol is missing

Noughts and crosses

Use slide six as a noughts and crosses board to play as a class in two teams. You read out an instruction and each team marks a nought or cross on the matching symbol. Alternatively print the Activity: Noughts and crosses so the children can play the game in pairs with you reading out the instructions.

Word Matching

Using Activity: Match the symbol get the children to draw a line to match up the symbols and the words.

During the week

Get the children to design some bossy signs for the classroom.
